North Georgia Pediatric Therapies and Honeycutt Farms will host a fundraising event at the Acoustic Café Sept. 30 to benefit hippotherapy programs for special needs children in Ringgold.

Hippotherapy is a treatment technique using the movement of the horse to help engage children while keeping them focused on specific therapy goals, such as improving strength and balance for independent sitting and walking and stretching leg muscles.

Movement on a horse mimics walking for many of these children who are unable to walk themselves.

Honeycutt Farms and North Georgia Pediatric Therapies have been the longest provider of this service in the area and have the only facility that has experienced pediatric occupational and physical therapists that work with each child.

The staff at Acoustic Café understands the importance of the program because one of the owners has a child who has participated in hippotherapy.

At the fundraising event, the Micks, a local band that plays classic rock and roll and rhythm and blues combined with a few new hits, will perform.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. and they will play until 11 p.m.

The Acoustic Café has a great selection of wraps, burgers, sandwiches and salads and is located at 61 RBC Drive in the Remco Business Center.

There will be a $5 cover charge at the door that will be used for the care of the horses in the therapy program.
