The LaFayette Golf Course wrapped up a summer series of youth golf camps this week, instructed by head professional Eddie Jackson.

The camps were held three days a week throughout the summer months of June and July, finishing up with competitions last week.

“The kids are competing, but we’re giving instruction before, during and after the round,” Jackson explained. “We’re just trying to teach the fundamentals of the game, keep them on the course and just help them get better.”

Jackson said over 100 kids signed up and participated in the camps over the past two months.

“There are a lot of good things happening here at the golf course with the junior program,” he added. “We’ve had some kids come through our program in the last few years that have gone on to win some pretty big amateur tournaments and sign college scholarships, and just more and more kids are getting better and better. It’s a great program we have going here.”

There were five separate boys’ divisions and one girls’ division for the competitions.

Individual division winners included McKinley Langford (girls), Grant Langford (boys 7-under), Ethan Dendy (boys 9-12), Carter Glenn (boys beginner middle school), Kurt Ingram (boys advanced middle school) and C.J. Arnold (boys high school).
