Davidson’s debut album, “Unconditional,” combines the tradition of country with soul, rock, blues and gospel instrumental.
The first single and title track, “Unconditional,” peaked at No. 3. The album “Unconditional” offers songs ranging from “I Can’t Lie to Me,” with its twist on blues friction, to “One More Day,” which has a light yet stomping traveling vibe.
The 11 songs on “Unconditional,” seven of which Davidson wrote himself, comprise a collection of soulful, rocking country. It’s country music influenced by, but hardly limited to, Davidson’s life-long love of artists like Merle Haggard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Don Williams, and Elvis Presley.
“I like to think my songs remove the guesswork,” Davidson said. “I like the simpler stuff, the kind of thing where you don’t have to wonder what someone is talking about.”
Davidson’s musical style and lyrics reflect his world. Through most of the 1990s, that world wasn’t one that many country artists wanted to sing about.
“Maybe life is going too fast for a lot of people to enjoy the simple things these days,” he said. “There’s a rawness to life, and that’s reflected in my music.”
