Dear editor:

I read in your paper a couple of weeks ago where our legislators chose unanimously to give themselves a raise. I have never been so appalled in my life.

These legislators are self-centered and do not care about the constituents that put them in office.

What is more disturbing is what our beloved governor is proposing to do for those who hold a state position who are retiring or considering retiring. He wants to drop health insurance. It is impossible to live without any kind of insurance.

I am an educator and work hard at what I do. I am seeking retirement within the next three years. I hate to think that everything that I have worked for will be taken away from me.

I appreciate the gift card that I received, but why did Governor Perdue wait until election year? I wish that I had a monetary amount of how much money has been spent out of my pocket each year for supplies.

I wrote a letter to my local newspaper encouraging everyone to contact their legislatures and let them know how we feel. If we do not take a stand now we are headed for disaster. My concern is that people on a fixed income (that does include teachers) and the elderly cannot survive and make ends meet. I think we need to let them know that we are not going to be pushed around.
