Beth Kellerhals, school superintendent, said at 9:45 Thursday morning that after conferring with Georgia Emergency Management officials and the school board, she chose to close schools due to the potential for flooding, high winds and power loss.
Kellerhals and the Catoosa Board of Education met at 8:15 a.m. Thursday morning to discuss and prepare for the possible closings.
The superintendent said the decision rests solely on her shoulders, but she tries to confer with local emergency management personnel and the school board before closing schools.
This is a “unique situation” and different from a typical snow closing, Kellerhals said
