Wasting taxpayer money
Dear editor: I cant believe the nerve of Councilwoman Moye thanking the city for sending her and the Mayor off to Atlanta for the Inaugural of the Governor. This was a trip that the Mayor chose to go on and took his second in command merely at taxpayers' expense to get away. They spent close to $1,400 on gas and lodgings again to go somewhere that didnt pertain to city matters. The council never approved of this trip nor were all of us aware that they had slipped off. The council meeting for the 8th of January was cancelled all with the approval of the City Attorney but again no council action. The statement by the Mayor during last council meeting about Councilwoman Moye getting her way not only angered me, but it should have been a wake up call to all citizens when it comes time to cast your vote. Will you vote for someone who gets their way and is able to go along with the Mayor on trips that cost the taxpayers money? When an issue comes before the council we all should vote with our heart and always keep an open mind toward how this may affect or employees or citizens. We cant make decisions based on everyones agenda, political thinking or favors for someone. The little playful tit for tat that the Mayor and Moye enjoyed showed me how divided this council is. When a council can differ on paying $25,000 but joke about the difference of $3,084 on leasing a stamp machine and laugh that a councilperson got their way. Was that a slap in the face of the other members that one is so special to the Mayor?
And speaking of the Mayor. How about him taking it on himself to spend $1,000, again, of the taxpayers money on having the Treatment Plant appraised by Moyes employer? I tried once to offer my employers safety manual and even used my employment as an example and was told by one council member he didnt care what I did. I was just offering advice and thoughts. All at no cost to the taxpayers but yet the Mayor pays council woman Moyes employer $1,000 without council approval or action. Where in our Charter does it give anyone other than the City Manager authority to spend $1,000 or less without council action? And just to stay away from any type of conflict, wouldnt it be wise to use someone to appraise property other than a city or councilpersons employer? Please, I dont want to hear the I dont vote rubbish.
Speaking of rubbing. If all you citizens had pulled that little plastic bag off of your garbage cans it would have saved the Mayor and Moye all the trouble of making an info commercial to teach people the use of proper can placement.
