A Huntsville, Ala., man has been arrested in Walker County for allegedly attempting to have sex with a minor.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said 46-year-old Anthony Neely was arrested in Walker County Thursday by FBI agents and officers with the Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The FBI said Neely had been engaged in a series of Internet chats with what he thought was a minor child, and was arrested when he traveled from Alabama to Walker County to meet the “minor child.”

Neely is being held in the Walker County jail on state charges of criminal attempt-child exploitation.

In an unrelated case, the FBI agents and Conasauga Safe Streets Task Force officers arrested a man on June 5 who they say traveled to Walker County to have sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Robert Lee Ervin, 39, of Sweetwater, Tenn., was arrested on charges of child pornography and criminal attempt-child exploitation.

According to the FBI, Ervin had been engaged in a series of Internet chats with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl. He traveled to Walker County from Tennessee to meet with this “minor child” and was subsequently arrested.

He was detained at the Walker County Detention Facility and bonded out June 5.

The task force consists of agents from the FBI and Immigrations and Customers Enforcement, as well as officers from the Whitfield Sheriff’s Office, Dalton Police Department and Calhoun Police Department.
