Police and EMTs responded to a call at Barnhardt Circle in Fort Oglethorpe on Wednesday, Jan. 2, after a city worker found a disoriented 51-year-old woman wandering around naked.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department, the city worker located the woman near a gazebo in the area of 100 Barnhardt Circle around 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.

“The worker stated that she ran down off the raised platform toward him and said that she was freezing to death,” officer James Clark wrote in the report. “I attempted to speak to her, but she refused to talk.”

Fire and EMS arrived at the scene and the woman was transported by ambulance to Erlanger at Hutcheson hospital, where she was eventually able to provide her first name, reports show.

After meeting with hospital staff, the woman was able to advise nurses of her allergies, and where she lived.

“The attending emergency room doctor advised me that the suspect was suffering from delusions and had an altered state of reality,” Clark said. “The doctor stated that he was admitting her to a mental health facility for further evaluation.”

Police were able to gather that the woman lived in an apartment near Barnhardt Circle and made contact with her landlord, reports show.

“I advised the landlord of the situation, and made arrangements for the to woman's cat to be cared for,” Clark said. “I also went to and secured her apartment.”
