A LaFayette man was arrested for assault and false imprisonment.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office:

Derek Mark Wilson, 26, of Ga. 151 in LaFayette, was arrested on Dec. 26 at 9:30 pm.

Deputies were originally dispatched to a domestic disturbance on Dec. 22 at approximately 3 a.m. involving Wilson allegedly beating a female.

According to the witness statement, the female’s granddaughter witnessed the beating and alerted other adults, who found Wilson on top of the female with his knee pining her down and choking her with his hands.

The adult male witness struck Wilson in an attempt to make him stop. Wilson punched the witness, then bit his hand.

The female victim later stated that Wilson had been highly intoxicated and tackled her to the floor and choked her until she lost consciousness.

The witness that found the woman called 911, but Wilson had fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Authorities took witness statements and photographed the various marks that the victims had sustained, matching the assault allegations.

Wilson faces charges for aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and battery. He was also charged with cruelty to children since children were present and witnessed the incident.
