Rossville's Lauren Alaina added another trophy to her case Monday night, Dec. 10, after being announced American Country's “New Artist of the Year.”

Overwhelmed and teary, Alaina received the award at the third annual American Country Awards held at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Alaina has been on a whirlwind rise to the top of the country music scene since coming in second behind Scotty McCreary on “American Idol” last year.

Luke Bryan dominated the night, earning nine awards, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. His smash hit “I Don't Want This Night to End” was named Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year.

Second only to Bryan was Miranda Lambert, who took home three wins. Female Artist of the Year was Carrie Underwood and Touring Artist was handed to Jason Aldean.

Fans were treated to performances by Bryan, Aldean, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Trace Adkins, and Lynyrd Skynrd.
