COMMUNITY · “Enchanted Evening” will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Chickamauga Public Library. Come hear readings of “The Polar Express” and “T’was the Night Before Christmas,” sit with Santa (personal photos welcome), enjoy cookies and cocoa. There will be an auction at 6:30 p.m. Items are donated by local merchants. Donors include Roper, Chickamauga Florist, Chickamauga Drug Store, Bank of Chickamauga, Shop-Rite, The Melon Patch, Chapman’s Jewelry, Joy’s Barber Shop, DanceSport Studio, and Whitfield Oil. Donations are still being accepted. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Chickamauga Public Library.

COMMUNITY · The Rossville Library will hold a Homeschool Program on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. The theme this week is “Can’t Catch Me!,” the kids will read Gignerbread man stories and make ornaments.

COMMUNITY · A live auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Chickamauga Public Library. Proceeds will support library programs. Auction items were donated by area merchants and include a stove from Roper, gift cards, jewelry, dance lessons, hand bags, a fruit basket, flowers and other items.

COMMUNITY · A Breastfeeding class will be offered from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road) in Chattanooga. This class is designed to help participants make an informed choice about breastfeeding. Learn breastfeeding basics, what to expect the first few weeks and special tips for success. Concerns about returning to work/school will also be discussed. This course is coordinated by a board-certified lactation consultant. Registration fee is $30. COMMUNITY · Calhoun Composite Squadron #134 of the Civil Air Patrol-U.S. Air Force Auxiliary currently has openings available for a safety officer, communications officer, and emergency services officer, among others. COMMUNITY · AARP Tax-Aide, a free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers in Walker County to help taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2012 tax returns. Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree to participate. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers should have some computer experience, such as e-mail and internet browsing. Also needed are volunteers who have management experience. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free IRS-certified tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. COMMUNITY · Starting Jan. 1, 2013, Georgia Farmers will need to apply and obtain a GATE (Georgia Agriculture Exemption Card) from the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture. This is the result of HB 386 which was passed this year by the legislature which allows Georgia farmers to take advantage of additional sales tax exemptions. If you are a farm producer with $ 2,500 in Ag income, you need to prepare to obtain a GATE card. COMMUNITY · Registration deadline for the North Georgia Community YMCA Christmas Break Camp (Dec. 26-28 and Jan. 2-4, 2013) is Tuesday, Dec. 18. The camp is for children ages 5-12. COMMUNITY · The Dalton Career Expo will be held from 1-5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton. The businesses attending will be those with current openings, or those expected to hire in the near future. Employers will be able to conduct on-site job interviews so job seekers are reminded to dress professionally for the event and be prepared to present copies of their resumes or work history. There will also be a computer area for job seekers to work on their resumes, or complete on-line applications. An early-bird workshop aimed at helping job seekers market themselves at a career expo is also being planned for that day. The Georgia Department of Labor is working with the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce-Development Authority, City of Dalton, Whitfield County Government, Murray County Chamber of Commerce, and members of the Murray-Whitfield faith community in the effort to match job seekers with available jobs. COMMUNITY · Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care, Inc. is selling Adventures in Dining Coupon Books for $35. The books contain 87 buy-one-get-one free coupons for dining and entertainment in Chattanooga, north Georgia and Cleveland. The total value of the book is over $1,100. The group receives a $10 commission for each book sold. Books are available at the following locations: Ringgold Telephone Company and Tille Town in Ringgold; and The Animal Medical Center in Ft. Oglethorpe. CCAC is a non-profit volunteer organization formed to improve animal care awareness in Catoosa County. COMMUNITY · The Chattanooga Zoo’s 12 Days of Christmas for the Animals will begin on Saturday, Dec. 1. For 12 days, the Zoo will feature a different animal on its Facebook page and what he or she would like for Christmas. Guests of the Zoo can bring their gift to the Zoo Gift Shop anytime during the month of December and receive a small gift in return from the Chattanooga Zoo. COMMUNITY · Hutcheson Medical Center invites the Northwest Georgia community to the hospital’s 28th annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, Dec. 6. The event will begin at 5 p.m. in the hospital lobby and feature family-oriented events such as a children’s crafts area, holiday carols, and a visit from Santa. The highlight of the evening will be the annual lighting of the tree atop the hospital.
