Three of this year’s winners are from north Georgia.
The ACE Helpful Group won the Corporate Volunteer of the Year award for its ongoing support of United Way's Volunteer Center and for its volunteer work assisting tornado victims in Walker, Catoosa and Dade counties in north Georgia and Hamilton County in Tennessee. It operates in both Catoosa and Walker counties, and its president, Tom Glenn, was raised in Chickamauga.
Kaycee Ensign won the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for her work collecting supplies for area food banks, assisting with local fundraising events and for collecting money for the Clean Water for Africa Project. She lives in Flintstone and attended Girls Preparatory School.
Nancy Carroll won the Judges’ Choice Volunteer of the Year Award for her work in Walker County on behalf of the Girl Scouts. When she isn’t helping area scout leaders or managing her own troop, Carroll works at Roper Corp. in LaFayette.
United Way’s Volunteer Center has worked with regional volunteers to recruit, engage or manage 11,172 volunteers, bring in 37,343 volunteer hours to the region at a value of $813,704 in human capital, coordinate 33 corporate days of caring and help 125 area nonprofits recruit volunteers for their activities.
The Volunteer United Awards are sponsored by United Way’s Volunteer Center, DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies) and the Corporate Volunteer Council (an advisory committee to the United Way). Area volunteers are recognized for accomplishing extraordinary feats through service, such as disaster recovery, youth mentoring and fundraising.
