Pool play to finish up Sunday morning in Rick Honeycutt World Series

Pool play in the inaugural Rick Honeycutt World Series began at the LFO Recreation Fields on Saturday.

In Pool A of the 6-under division, LaFayette went 2-0, defeating LFO (21-5) and the Boynton Scrappers (21-10). LFO managed a tie with East Ridge (11-11) in its other pool game on Saturday, while the Scrappers fell to Bartow Co. Blue (18-7).

Pool play will continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. with LaFayette taking on East Ridge White. LFO will face the Scrappers at 11:30 a.m., and LFO will play again at 12:45 p.m. against Topps Baseball in a non-pool game.

Ringgold went 1-1 in Pool B action on Saturday, losing to the Middle Valley Predators (12-10), but bouncing back to beat the East Ridge Pioneers (21-20). Ringgold will play at 10:15 a.m. Sunday against the New Georgia Orioles in their final pool game.

Pool C saw the Boynton Generals rack up a pair of wins on Saturday as they defeated Chattanooga Valley (19-4) and Signal Mountain (22-19). Chattanooga Valley was edged by Topps Baseball later in the day (20-19).

Pool C action will conclude Sunday with Chattanooga Valley taking on Signal Mountain and the Generals facing the Middle Valley Rage. First pitch of both games is slated for 11:30 a.m.

And in Pool D games on Saturday, Chickamauga dropped games to both the Chattanooga Pirates (21-8) and the Macedonia Mustangs (28-9). Chickamauga will play at 10:15 a.m. Sunday against the Snow Hill Hawks to wrap up pool play.

The top 10 teams in pool play, based on overall record and run differential, will move on to play in the double-elimination Gold bracket. Games in the Gold bracket are slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday with additional games to be played at 4 and 5:30 p.m.

Play in the Gold bracket will pick up again Monday at 9 a.m. and continue on Tuesday and Wednesday evening with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday. A second game, if needed, would be played at 8 p.m.

The other nine teams will go into the Silver single-elimination bracket, which begins Monday at 3 p.m. The final will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pool play in the 9-under tournament began and finished up on Saturday. LFO went 1-1 in Pool A play as the Red-and-White lost to Signal Mountain (15-11), but defeated East Ridge (7-3).

Chickamauga went 0-2 in Pool B, losing to Bradley County (14-1) and Gordon County (6-2).

The double-elimination brackets are set with top-seeded Bradley County taking on eighth-seeded Chickamauga at 9 a.m. Sunday. No. 4 LFO will face No. 5 Dade County at 11 a.m. No. 3 Gordon County will take on No. 6 East Ridge at 1 p.m., while No. 2 Signal Mountain will battle No. 7 Middle Valley at 3 p.m. The winners will square off at 5 and 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

Losers' bracket play starts up at 9 a.m. Monday and the tournament championship game will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. with a second game, if necessary, to be play at 8 p.m. that night.

And in 11-under pool play from Saturday, LFO went 2-0 in Pool A play, taking down Soddy-Daisy (13-2) before shutting out the Whitfield County Lookouts (7-0).

Chickamauga lost their Pool A opener to Soddy-Daisy (7-5). They will wrap up pool play at 9 a.m. Sunday against the Lookouts. The double-elimination bracket will be set following the conclusion of that game and bracket play will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.

The final is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday with a second game, if necessary, to immediately follow.

The Rick Honeycutt World Series for the 7, 8, 10, and 12-year-old age groups will begin with Opening Ceremonies on Friday, July 13 at 6 p.m. and pool play will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 14.

The LFO Recreation Association and the Ringgold Youth Athletic Association will joinly host next week's tournaments.

LaFayette 6u AllStars won our first game at 5:30pm we play again tomorrow at 12!!!
