COMMUNITY · A cruise-in and car show will be held from 6-9 p.m. on the east side of the square in downtown LaFayette. Participants may enter their cars into a competition for no charge. Judges will select Best Restoration, Best Resto-Mod and Best Original. LaFayette Downtown Development Authority is sponsoring the free event. A cruise-in is also scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4. ENTERTAINMENT · A gospel concert benefiting Walker County resident Jeremy Blakemore who was seriously injured in a farming accident will be held at 7 p.m. July 7, at the Walker County Civic Center. COMMUNITY · Julyfest in Mentone, Ala., will be held from 9 a.m. (central)-9 p.m. (central) Saturday, July7, and from 11 a.m. (central)-5 p.m. (central) Sunday, July 8. The event is organized by the Mentone Area Arts Council and features an arts and crafts fair in Mason Park, music by area bands, a pet parade and dog adoption to benefit the Humane Society and Animal Resources of DeKalb County (Ala.) and various food vendors. ENTERTAINMENT · A benefit concert will be held for Jeremy Millard at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Walker County Civic Center. The featured artists are "The Hullender Family", "The Greesons" and "Heritage Quartet." Millard sustained serious injuries to both arms and severe burns on June 7 following an accident with a hay baler. Donations are to help the family with the extensive medical bills and treatment.

COMMUNITY · Camp New Dawn located in McClemore Cove is taking registrations for summer camp: Multi-sports camp is from July 8-13. Cost is $250. Day camp costs $130. For kids entering grades 1-12. A camp combining soccer with softball, basketball and volleyball. Directed by a professional soccer trainer and physical education teacher. COMMUNITY · “Civil War Hospitals and Medicine” will be the topic of a display and series of talks on Sundays during July at the Catoosa County Library. Speakers will be Jim Ogden, July 8, “Beyond the Field Hospitals”, Connie Forester, July 15, “The Battle of Lafayette and the Hospital at the Presbyterian Church,” Jerry Tollinger, July 22, “A 10th Tennessee Cavalryman,” and Pat and Harold Silcox, July 29, “Colonel and Mrs. Cloud.” Each talk will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m. each Sunday at the community room of the library located on the Benton Place campus off Battlefield Parkway. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · LaFayette Middle School will host a fundraising event for LaFayette High School student Austin Whitten at Pie Slingers restaurants from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday, July 9. Profits at both locations will be donated to the Whitten family for Austin’s medical expenses. Pie Slingers is at 2535 Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe, and 56A Fieldstone Village Drive in Rock Spring. Austin was injured in an accident earlier this summer.

RELIGIOUS · Pine Hillbilly Revival will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday, July 9, through Friday, July 13, at 12626 Highway 41 in Tunnel Hill. This year's theme is "Giants." Rev.
