According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:
The incident occurred at about 10:20 p.m. June 24 when several vehicles ambushed a teenage KFC employee in the parking lot, and beat up another teen that arrived at the scene a few minutes later.
Officers were dispatched to the BP gas station at the corner of LaFayette Road and Schmidt Road in reference to the assault, which had taken place at the KFC at 663 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway).
“The first victim told me that she was working the drive-thru at KFC when a vehicle pulled up with the occupants asking her if ‘she was afraid,’ and then pulled away from the store,” officer William Palmer wrote in the report. “She stated that later in the night around 10:20 p.m., she was taking trash to the dumpster when several vehicles pulled up with the occupants getting out and surrounding her.”
The occupants of the vehicles then began to physically assault the 17-year-old by punching and kicking her, reports show.
“Approximately 15 to 20 minutes later, the second victim said that she arrived and exited her vehicle, at which times the suspects began assaulting her as well,” Palmer said. “She stated that the suspects began kicking and hitting her, but stopped and fled the scene when several emergency vehicles drove past with lights and sirens going while responding to an unrelated call.”
The two teen victims told police they knew the individuals involved with the assault and provided what information they could, reports show.
“I attempted to contact one of the suspects via conference with dispatch,” Palmer said. “Dispatch advised that a female answered the phone but stated she was not the person we asked to speak with and immediately hung up the phone. Attempts to reconnect to the number failed due to the line being busy.”
The two teens were encouraged to seek protective orders as soon as possible, reports show.
“During my interview, I observed a very large welt on the top of the first victim’s forehead above her left eye, and bruising under her right arm,” Palmer said. “I also observed a very large welt on the forehead above the left eye of the second victim.”
Photos of the girls’ injuries were taken and documented for evidence purposes.
