COMMUNITY · Combat Sports and Scorecard Athletics are conducting regional tryouts for the Team Combat All-American Team at Cleveland State Community College on Thursday, June 28, and Friday, June 29. The tryouts are open to baseball players age 13–18. All players attending the tryouts will have their baseball skills evaluated by coaches and have evaluation profiles and reports made available to numerous college coaches and scouts. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · Fireworks, food and music will be the theme Friday, June 29, at LaFayette's annual Freedom Festival. Johnny Cash Now, a Johnny Cash tribute band, will headline the event, which will be from 5-11 p.m. at the municipal park at the Recreation Department at 638 S. Main Street (South U.S. 27), next to the golf course. Admission is free. Music City Brass will take will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. This local band's repertoire includes Dixieland jazz, gospel and classic country favorites. Johnny Cash Now will kick off their show at 8 p.m. The band’s music includes songs by Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, June Carter and the Tennessee Three.
