Curious kids will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiments and experiences this summer at Dalton State’s “World of Science Camp” offered to children ages 7-10. Sponsored by the Dalton State Foundation, the camp will feature faculty members from Dalton State’s School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and is of-fered in two sessions, Monday through Friday, June 11-22.

Session A, featuring classes on the ocean, plants and soil, rocks and minerals, human anatomy, and mathemati-cal puzzles, runs from Monday, June 11, through Friday, June 15, from 2-5 p.m. each day. Cost for session A is $110.

Session B includes courses on chemistry, birds, fossils, motion and machines, and science mysteries and runs from Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22, from 2-5 p.m. each day. Cost for Session B is $110. Registration for both sessions is $200.

Pam Pertain, Dalton State spokeswoman, said in a recent news release that the camps have gotten a great re-sponse and are growing every year. In addition to World of Science camp, the foundation is also sponsoring the popular Creek Critters and Stream Stomp camps, which both introduce children to the wonders of stream ecosys-tems.

“The World of Science Camp builds on the years of success we have had with our Creek Critters and Stream Stomp camps,” Partain said. “We’ll expand this year to cover principles of physics, chemistry, geology, and mathe-matics in addition to biology.”

Creek Critters is for children ages five and six, and will meet on Monday, July 9, and Wednesday, July 11, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $45.

Stream Stomp is for children age seven to ten and will meet on Tuesday, July 10, and Thursday, July 12, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $55.

Creek Critters and Stream Stomp classes will be taught by Dalton State biology faculty members John and Gretchen Lugthart.

“Children are naturally curious and our School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is rich in resources to stimulate the inquisitive mind,” Partain said. “Our faculty members are excited to have these opportunities to share what they know of the natural world with young students who are anxious to learn.”
