A Chickamauga woman was arrested in Fort Oglethorpe earlier this week after she was found to be in possession of drugs while trying to shoplift from a gas station along Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Shelly Walker Mason, 33, of Kensington Road in Chickamauga was arrested on Monday, May 7, and charged with possession of a Schedule IV drug and theft by shoplifting.

Officers responded to the Mapco Mart at 3668 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) at approximately 6 p.m. in regards to a female shoplifter already in custody, reports show.

“The store employee stated that he observed the female (Mason) conceal an item inside her purse while inside the store,” officer Kevin Shadwick wrote in the report. “The employee also handed me several blue pills that he claimed she was trying to get rid of.”

While searching Mason, a glass marijuana pipe and additional blue pills were found inside her purse.

The pills recovered were sent to the Georgia Crime Lab for identification, and Mason was transported to Catoosa County jail without incident.

Stealing? yes, to jail. This breaks a basic law, "thou shalt not steal". But what about the other side of the story? Have we asked the questions, "is she an addict?"; "where did she get the drugs?" Are we again arresting the "user", and not getting to the "source" of the problem? Not enough information in this story. Please start asking if the individual has a history of drug use (an addict); or are they manufacturers and/or dealers.

North GA needs to get to the "root" of the problem and be known for "no drugs allowed" in our counties. Stop the manufacturers and the dealers. Send all addicts to rehab the first time you get them instead of waiting until their bodies are deteriorated from the drug use and their families are destroyed. Get to the root of the problem and get the manufacturers, suppliers, dealers out of Dodge. Don't sell out to the money game that appears to be behind it all. Rise up and be a righteous and honorable people. Get the drugs out at their source. Don't prey on the addicts. Addicts will eventually be gone if you eliminate the source. Chase the source out of North GA and eventually the entire state. You can do it, but will you?
