Spring golf tournament season heating up

The Chickamauga Lions Club will host the first annual Grover Newman Memorial Golf Tournament on May 1 at the Battlefield Golf Club in Ringgold.

The 18-hole, four-person event will begin at 10 a.m.

Fees for individual players are $100 and a four-person team sponsorship is $400. Each player will receive a goody bag, breakfast and lunch before and after their round, and snacks and drinks on the course.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each.

There will be first, second, and third-place cash prizes for low gross score, as well as prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, a putting contest, and a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. Mulligans will also be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the many charities the Lions Club sponsors.

The tournament is named for Grover Newman, a charter member of the Chickamauga Lions Club with 44 years of perfect attendance. He served many different posts with the club, was a member of the board of directors, and was on many different committees on the local and state level.

Newman also served as President of the Walker County Chamber of Commerce.

Catoosa County Special Olympics tournament

A golf tournament to support Catoosa County’s Special Olympics will be held on Monday, May 7 at the Bear Trace Golf Course at Harrison Bay in Tennessee.

The day will begin with a clinic taught by PGA professionals Bryce Ledford and Luke List beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a BBQ lunch, and an 18-hole scramble at 1 p.m.

Walker County Chamber golf tournament

The annual Walker County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will take place on Thursday, April 26 at the LaFayette Golf Course. In case of rain, the event will be held on May 1.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m. and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

There will be prizes awarded for the top three teams, as well as prizes for men’s and women’s longest drive, closest to the pin, and other door prizes.

Entry fee for an individual golfer is $125 or $500 for a four-person team.

Cart ($100) and tee ($200) sponsorships are also available for the event.

Other stroke saver options will be available for purchase before the tournament.

Communities In Schools golf tournament

The first annual CHaSYN (Creating Healthy and Strong Youth Now) golf tournament will be held Tuesday, May 1 at Windstone Golf Club in Ringgold.

The proceeds from the tournament will go to help Communities In Schools, which helps at-risk youth in Catoosa County.

Lunch and dinner will be provided and prizes will be awarded, including a new car for a hole-in-one.
