Hutcheson Hospice is honored to introduce a special patient who recently celebrated her 100th birthday: Mrs. Charlcie Hicks.

Hicks received a surprise celebration from her family at the Battlefield Baptist Church where friends and family gathered. Prior to the celebration, Hicks would remind staff members at every visit that on Nov. 12 she would turn 100.

She was born Charlcie Frankie Mahan on Nov. 12th, 1911, one of nine siblings in Marshall County, Albertville, Ala. She married Elfred (Bully) Kelley at age 20 in 1930. Hicks attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Welcome Bethel Church. She was saved at age 10. She is unable to attend church presently due to her health issues, however, she reads the Bible daily.

Hicks has four children: Irene Kelly Barrett, George (Geneva) Kelley, James Kelley (deceased), and Martha Nell (Vernon) Kelley-Morton. She has 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 24 great great grandchildren.

She now spends her days with her son George and daughter-in-law Geneva, and other family members. Hicks is a delight to all who have the privilege of knowing her. She is always smiling and talking about Jesus Christ. She has great family support from her large extended family.
