The Battlefield Farmers’ Market is preparing to celebrate the fall season with free fun for the whole family at the Harvest Hoedown. Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. to noon, the market will host Harvest Hoedown at the Walker County Ag Center. The event is free to the public and will feature a variety of activities for children, including a combination bounce house, two obstacle courses, miniature horses and other animals, line dancers teaching guests the Miley Cyrus Hoedown Throwdown and a pumpkin painting station with more than 100 free pumpkins.

The Battlefield Farmers’ Market began its inaugural Kids Days program this season with a free kid-focused event held every fourth Saturday of the month since May. The Harvest Hoedown is the final Kids Day of the season and market staff and volunteers are excited to conclude the new program with a bang.

“We’ve had a great turnout at many of our Kids Days and we want Harvest Hoedown to be our biggest event yet,” says Erin Hendrix, volunteer Kids Days Coordinator. “Kids Day has been so much fun and so successful, especially for being a brand new program. Harvest Hoedown is like our big end-of-the-year party to say thank you to the community and celebrate that success.”

The Kids Days program owes much of its success to the support of local business sponsors, including Creative Image Hair Salon, Buttercup Alley, Old Mill Kettle Corn, Bank of Chickamauga, My Stepping Out, Farmhouse Mercantile, Pie Slingers Pizzeria, Key Fitness Center, Night Talk/The Morning Show on UCTV, Tootie’s, The Frost Allstate Agency and Cohutta Banking Company.

“We are truly grateful to all our sponsors and couldn’t do this without them,” says Hendrix. “The community has really stepped up to support and participate in this program.”

Harvest Hoedown will begin at 8 a.m., and free pumpkins will be available for painting on a first-come first-served basis. If you have questions or would like additional information, please visit www.battlefieldfmkt.org or e-mail bfmkidsday@gmail.com.
