A Rossville man was arrested July Fourth after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and stealing her medication.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department:

Jonathan Edward Smith, 21, of 222 Mitchell Lane in Rossville was charged with burglary after he broke into a residence on Roy Drive in Rossville and stole prescription medication from the kitchen table.

The incident took place at approximately 5:37 a.m.

The victim told police she was asleep in her bed when she heard the glass break on the back door.

After waking, she sat up in the bed and through her bedroom doorway saw Smith in her kitchen, she said.

Smith, who was wearing greenish cargo work pants and a dark colored shirt, then grabbed the medication and ran out of the house, the victim said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered footprints in the wet grass leading away from the victim’s residence.

While searching the area for the offender, another officer located similar prints in wet grass at a nearby resi-dence at 222 Mitchell Lane.

The information was then relayed to detective Tim Busby who with assistance from officer Tim Baldivid made contact with the suspect, questioned him, then placed him under arrest for the burglary.

Smith was then transported to Catoosa County jail without incident.
