The Ringgold Depot was busy Saturday, Jan. 15, with the wedding plans of many dozens of couples and their family and friends at the inaugural Southern Charm Wedding Expo.

Hundreds of people from across the region who are looking forward to wedding ceremonies in the coming year attended the event, a “phenomenal turnout,” according to Ringgold city marketing coordinator Meaghan Dant.

“The Depot was packed for the first three hours of the event,” Dant said. “Considering the weather, I’m very happy with that.”

More than 30 businesses set up booths to show off their wedding-related merchandise and services — everything from caterers, photographers and florists to limousine service, dress boutiques, and tuxedo rental.

Guests were able to see live modeling of bridesmaid dresses, wedding gowns, and tuxedos.

Door prizes from the various merchants and food samples from the caterers and bakers were abundant.

“This event benefits the city in a number of ways,” Dant said. “It brings people into downtown Ringgold, promotes local businesses, and reconnects Ringgold’s famous wedding history.”

The expo was funded by the Ringgold Downtown Development Authority, which will use the vendor fees for façade renovation grants to downtown businesses.
