The Ringgold High School Marching Tiger Band kicked off their 2004 competition season last week in Trion, winning best band overall Saturday night, Sept. 25, at the 2004 Mount Vernon Mills Invitational Marching Band Festival.

Their show, including performances of Academy Award-winning songs from the movies "Ben Hur" and "Gladiator," captured top honors in all but one category in the Open Class, and the band, colorguard and percussion finished best overall.

Other awards included the Highest Music Score, Highest Colorguard Score, Highest Percussion Score, and Best Visual Effect.

Roman columns surrounded the band and colorguard as they wowed the audience with thunderous drums and rich horns.

On Saturday, they will compete against 24 other squads in the Second Annual Yellow Jacket Classic Marching Band Festival in Rockmart.

The Tigers are led by director Robin Christian and assistant director Tracy Wright.
