Oakwood Baptist Church in Chickamauga’s feature film, titled “Side Order: The Best Things in Life Aren’t Always on the Menu,” will hold its premiere tonight at 7 p.m. at Oakwood Baptist Church on 115 Oakwood St. in Chickamauga.
According to Oakwood Baptist media director Bobby Daniels, the production consists entirely of talent and crew from the church and has been in production for more than a year.
“It’s a 100 percent Oakwood production,” Daniels said in early October. “The movie itself is a labor of love.”
The church’s media department makes up the crew of about 40 people, with more than 50 actors in the film.
Daniels said the movie was made as inexpensively as possible, but with very high quality, using the latest technology of digital filming and editing.
“Side Order” is Oakwood Baptist Church’s third feature film.
Daniels said the film has a strong presentation of the Gospel, but is done in a different way with the element of realism, depicting “real life in a small town.”
“We want to accomplish appealing to the masses, not preaching to the choir,” Daniels said.
The church filmed “Side Order” in several locations around the area, with half of the filming being conducted at Roy’s Grill in Rossville.
According to Daniels, the film is set in the modern day and is like a cross between Mayberry and “Cheers.”
Daniels said that the church plans to make more films in the future.
“It has been an exciting thing,” he said. “We believe this is the start of something big.”
The movie opens Friday night, with additional shows at 4 and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and the movie’s trailer and additional information can be found at the movie’s website, sideorderthemovie.com.
Admission is free.
