A two-day special planning session this weekend between the LaFayette mayor, city council and city manager will start the ball rolling on the search for a new public safety director to replace Tommy Freeman. Freeman was fired by city manager Frank Etheridge Wednesday morning, May 16, after an internal investigation concluded that Freeman could not be trusted in the position. The public safety director’s job includes police chief and fire chief. According to Etheridge, the city of LaFayette has paid out Freeman’s earned but unused vacation time of 94.26 hours for a gross amount of $3,388....
